Chromosome Analysis from Chorionic Villi Samples in Recurrent Spontaneous Abortion

Abstract
Karyotyping of chorionic villi in early pregnancy wastages was performed to analyse chromosomes of chorionic vill in 17 couples with normal phenotypes having a history of habitual abortion who had visited Hanyang University Hospital from Aprill
1991 to
April 1992. Among the 17 couples, karyotying of peripheral blood lymphocytes was also made of 8 couples.
The karyotypes of 15 out 17 (88.2%) chorionic villi samples were normal. They were comprised of 8 cases of 46, XY and 7 of 46, XX. The two abnormal karyotypes were a 21 trisomy of 47, XY, +21 and a triploidy of 69, XXY, Of the 8 couples examed,
one
husband was found to have a traslocation of 46, XY, t(18:22).
The following results suggest that the cytogenetic causes of recurrent abortions could be revealed more efficiently and economically through the chromosome analysis of couples rather than chorionic villi sampling of the conceptus. But we add that
a
more
extended study is needed to verify our conclusions.
